The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) – the issuer of the 12-digit personal identification number Aadhaar – provides a slew of online facilities for Aadhaar applicants and enrollees. One such service provided by the UIDAI enables those registered under the Aadhaar programme to download a digital copy of their Aadhaar identification card. The digital Aadhaar is “as valid as the Aadhaar letter receievd by post”, the UIDAI said on Twitter. The UIDAI manages the biometric ID programme Aadhaar. How To Download Aadhaar Card

Here’s a step-by-step guide to download a digital copy of Aadhaar card:

Go to the UIDAI’s Aadhaar portal,

Click on the “download Aadhaar” option under the “get Aadhaar” section.

On the next page, the user can enter any of the Aadhaar number (UID), the enrolment ID (EID) and the virtual ID (VID) to proceed.

The user also gets the option of a masked digital copy of Aadhaar card. This masks the Aadhaar number in the digital copy of the Aadhaar card, which means the whole 12-digit UID is not visible in the digital copy.

After filling in the required details, click on the “Send OTP” button. After this, the UIDAI sends an OTP or one-time passcode to the user’s Aadhaar-registered mobile number.

This OTP is to be entered in the given window, as shown below:

Aadhaar card, Aadhaar card password, Aadhaar card address, Aadhaar card, Aadhaar number, Aadhaar download, Aadhaar card centre, Aadhaar card form, Aadhaar card update online

After entering the OTP, click on the “verify and download” button.

Online Aadhaar, Online Aadhaar update, Online Aadhaar verified UAN, Online Aadhaar card, Online Aadhaar address, Online Aadhaar card updation, Aadhaar card, Aadhaar download, Aadhaar number

On completion of the process, the digital copy is downloaded (in PDF format) on the device being used.

The digital copy – or e-Aadhaar – is protected by a password, which means the user is required to enter a password to access the document. This password is a combination of the first four letters of the user’s name (as given on the Aadhaar card) in capital letters followed by the user’s birth year in the YYYY format.

The UIDAI engages with users on social media from time to time to spread awareness on Aadhaar-related services.
