Netflix to offer more affordable plans to increase user base: Here’s all you need to know
Netflix is one of the most popular online video streaming portals in India and due to the drastic increase in competition from Amazon Prime, Netflix is now ready to experiment with new affordable plans for the users, with these new plans the video streaming site will be looking to increase its user base in India, as confirmed by the company’s chief product officer.
During the earning’s call on Tuesday, Netflix’s company’s chief product officer, Greg Peters was asked how he was looking to increase the user base in India and he said, “We’ll experiment with other pricing models, not only for India, but around the world that allows us to sort of broaden access by providing a pricing tier that sits below our current lowest tier. And we’ll see how that does in terms of being able to accelerate our growth and get more access. But even on the existing model, we feel like we have a long runway ahead of us in India.”
For the unknown, Netflix is the most expensive online streaming website in India and comes with a starting plan worth Rs. 500 per month for a single screen. On the other hand, the Netflix plan for HD quality is priced at Rs. 650 per month. When it comes to its biggest competitors, Amazon has priced its Prime subscription at just Rs. 129 per month while the yearly plan is priced at Rs. 999.
During the earning’s call, CEO Reed Hastings has confirmed that Netflix will soon be expanding its regional language options in the country beyond English and Hindi and this move is expected to bring the online streaming service one step closer to its long-term goal of registering a userbase of 100 million subscribers in India, which is country with over 300 million mobile users.
